Very encouraging recovery. This lineup not only bats long, we have 9 bowling options too. Let’s hope the pitch doesn’t become lifeless, as it did in the Glamorgan game.

Excellent recovery and thoroughly enjoyable day watching the cricket at Hove. Our new Kiwi looks a promising prospect… at least with the bat.

It was always going to be interesting to see how our young batters were going to cope without the experience of Pujara to galvernize the group. Yes, batting conditions may be challenging, but Coles and Carter aside, regretfully they haven't managed to step up to the challenge. The absence of Orr, clearly another contributing factor, but we really needed more from Haines and Alsop. We need at least one more substantial partnership and a cameo from one of the tail to post a competitive score. Well, not just one substantial partnership, but three, 59, 52 and 85 runs respectively. Furthermore, no cameos, but three substantive contributions from McAndrew, Carson and Shipley. What a pleasant change for once to see the opposition as opposed to Sussex being unable to press home an advantage. A good all round recovery and team effort. Three thoughts from the day... - McAndrew clearly more comfortable in the red ball format than the shorter form of the game.
- If Shipley can bowl as well as he can bat, we have found a real gem.
- Carter providing more evidence (if indeed it was needed), why we don't need to sign another wicketkeeper.

A good fightback from Carter, Coles, McAndrew, Carson and Shipley after five of the top seven failed miserably.

Another 12 from these last 2 this morning for the bonus point then let’s get stuck into them while the overheads are favourable.

Don’t think we had much luck in the first 40-odd overs but it suddenly got rather ragged, plus three slips for too long gifted a few runs. Disappointing.

And then 3 wickets for 12 runs!
Funny old game

A quite remarkable last hour or so.
Outstanding recovery by Sussex. If only we had bowled with more discipline immediately after tea, then we may have been level on first innings.
The thing that I find really frustrating is the way certain players always seem to score heavily when they play against us. Last match, Carlson of Glamorgan, this match Libby.
Important we get this last wicket quickly and our top order bat well second time around.

An excellent comeback to finish off a poor day before then. Onto the batters now.
Orr out for around another 6 weeks. Hopefully fit and ready to go for the start of the 50 over.

A good last hour in an otherwise poor day.

I thought Ari Karvelas bowled well most of the day; he deserved his late wickets. McAndrew also deserved much better than 0/60. The period when runs flowed in that 4th wicket stand was the only bad patch.

Quite evenly poised after Day 2. We used 8 of our 9 bowling options! Here’s hoping we bat well enough tomorrow to set a stretching but feasible target to set up an exciting final day.
