The Sussex Press Release was capable of being read ambiguously, but this is quite clear, and makes a nonsense of some over the top Tweets.

Yes, he paints a slightly different picture from the one presented by Sussex.

I guess, if we can give the illusion that Ed hasn't left, and will be available if needed, then, at a push, we can claim to have strengthened the batting. I'm not convinced, in fact the batting actually appears to me, to be considerably weaker than last time around. No Joyce, no Taylor and with Cachopa and FHP also released, it still looks pretty threadbare to me. We are just a couple of injuries away from exactly the scenario where we'd need to summon Joyce.

Yes, he paints a slightly different picture from the one presented by Sussex. "Slightly different"? Totally contradictory, surely. It says he has "left Sussex" and "walked away from the county championside". Joyce says he has been "job sharing...for the last few years" and that he is no longer prepared to do it. "I envisage playing for Ireland and Leinster 99% of the time," he says. The Lizzy Ammon twitter ballcocks is palpable nonsense and the senior people at Sussex CCC who have endorsed it by re-tweeting or whatever they did really ought to know better. I'd be astonished if we ever see Joyce at Hove again.

Jaik Mickleburgh, released by Essex, is still without a county and has opened regularly.

Bm,
As you say, Joyce shows his loyalty and commitment to Ireland which makes the Sussex "cover" story more of a PR exercise from the club by letting supporters down gently. Perhaps, my bet of only seeing Joyce in a Sussex shirt for 6 days next season is too generous. His comment, "I envisage playing for Ireland and Leinster 99% of the time if I’m honest" sums it up.

There is more chance of seeing Cecelia Joyce play for Sussex next season than Ed Joyce!

Sussex sound like a desperate love over all this - "Can we still be friends? If we can it ain't over." I know because Ping Pong played the Joyce role with me a few months back, while I was 'still be friends' Sussex. The next day she moved in with my brother - my brother being Ireland and me being, well Sussex still.
Happy X-mas everybody, see you all in the new year - on a screen, in text only. Peace x

Enjoy HH.

Ed plays for Leinster Lightning today in the first round of the Cricket Ireland Limited Over Cup.
What a huge loss he is to Sussex.

Just confirming what Ed had told us months ago, although Sussex seemed to find it difficult to accept!
Good luck, Ed. You were the backbone of our batting for several years - I hope you continue to flourish.
